Deepen your knowledge of the Civil War at the regionally relevant Turning Point exhibition, where you can experience the lives of soldiers and civilians through photographs, dioramas, videos, and over 1,500 original Union and Confederate artifacts.
The Atlanta History Center is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road NW and is open Monday through Saturday 10am – 5:30pm and Sunday 12pm – 5:30pm. Complimentary parking is available. The museum is just down the road from the popular Shops at Buckhead, home to top-notch shopping and dining.
Celebrate the city of Atlanta’s storied past and magnificent progress at the Gatheround exhibit. Explore topics such as politics and policy, cultural life, family and community, and urban growth through artifacts, ephemera, interactive media, recording booths, and immersive experiences. Enjoy the beauty of handcrafted items such as pottery, quilts, musical instruments, and baskets, and learn how folk art has influenced southern culture at the Shaping Traditions exhibit.
Along with the museum, you can explore the Swan House, a mansion built in 1928, along with the former residents’ classic cars. You can also discover where the author known as Peggy Marsh to her friends, wrote the famed book Gone With the Wind at the Margaret Mitchell House. The Atlanta History Center, one of the top Atlanta attractions, also offers twenty-two acres of captivating gardens, woodlands, and trails, offering a delightful outdoor experience and an understanding of the area’s horticultural history.
