The High Museum of Art houses an extensive collection of over 15,000 pieces of art from the genres of American Art, African Art, European Art, Folk Art and Self-Taught Art, Decorative Arts and Design, Modern and Contemporary Art, and Photography, including Renaissance and Baroque paintings and sculptures such as Bellini’s Madonna and Child, work from artists such as Nicolas Tournier, William Rush, George Inness, Thomas Cole, Lilla Cabot Perry, and more.
The museum also serves as a showcase for many Southern artists, particularly self taught artists such as Howard Finster and Lizzie Wilkerson. It is one of the only museums in North America with such an emphasis on displaying the works of self taught artists.
Even the architecture of the museum is its own form of artwork, with the sculptural architecture of the Stent Family Wing designed by famed abstract artist Richard Meier. It serves as an eye-catching addition to the High family home, which served as the original High Museum of Art Atlanta.
General admission for the museum is set at $14.50 per ticket for visitors ages 6 years old and older. Admission is free for children ages 5 years and younger. The High Museum of Art is open to the public on Tuesday through Sunday, with daily hours from 10:00am – 5:00pm on Tuesday through Thursday and on Saturdays, from 10:00am – 9:00pm on Fridays, and from 12:00pm – 5:00pm on Sundays.
