La Grotta Ristorante Italiano

When you’ve taken time out of a busy schedule to enjoy time away in the bustling city of Atlanta, chances are you have an itinerary packed with fun stops to enjoy while you’re in town. Atlanta is a destination brimming over with inspiring museums, galleries, tours, parks, and neighborhoods that feature incredible architecture, stories, and style. No matter where your adventures take you, when you’re in the mood for something savory, Atlanta is also a stop filled with versatile options. When you’re craving fine Italian fare in a setting as elegant as it is welcoming, be sure to put La Grotta Ristorante Italiano on your must-try list while you’re here!

Italian Flavor in the Heart of Atlanta

La Grotta Ristorante Italiano is located at 2637 Peachtree Road in the heart of Buckhead. The restaurant is open to the dining public Monday through Thursday from 5:45 pm until 9:30 pm with extended hours until 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. This iconic and savory stop has been a flavorful icon in the area since opening in 1978 and has enjoyed many awards and accolades since that time. Guests who reserve their place at La Grotta Ristorante Italiano can dine indoors at a cloth-covered table or make the most of patio dining under twinkling bistro lights in the evening hours. Outdoor dining offers up a view overlooking a lush courtyard but no matter where you choose to sit and eat, the ambiance at this eatery is decidedly a perfect pairing of elegant and welcoming.

Menu Favorites to Savor

The food on the menu at La Grotta Ristorante Italiano speaks to cuisine from the northern portion of Italy and provides vast and varied options to choose from. Cold and hot appetizers range from finely cut prosciutto and mozzarella caprese to grilled portobello mushrooms and sauteed mussels. Moving onto main course selections, guests can indulge in everything from dishes featuring the best of penne, ravioli, and risotto to seafood specialties including salmon, shrimp, and crab. Guests at La Grotta are often thrilled by the extensive wine selection this restaurant offers but are just as delighted by the variety of handcrafted cocktails that grace the menu, making this one of the best Italian restaurants in Atlanta.

Explore an Elegant Neighborhood

Before or after your meal at La Grotta, take an architectural tour of the unique neighborhood of Brookwood Hills. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this area is an excellent example of the suburban designs of the 1920s. Covering approximately 90 acres, and including more than 250 residences, Brookwood Hills is an amazing area to drive through and have a look around.

Though they were developed as part of the same subdivision, the homes in Brookwood Hills are like taking a tour through the variety of early 20th century architecture. They showcase diversity in style, size, and building materials, including brick, clapboard, and stone. From one-story bungalows to spacious Tudor-style mansions, the range here includes Neoclassical, Colonial, and Cottage style homes. Such a variety of well-maintained, unique homes is hard to find anywhere else!

Brookwood Hills Historic District is roughly bounded by Huntington Road to the south and east, Northwood Avenue and Montclair Drive to the west, and Brighton Road to the north. All the homes are private, so you can only enjoy their exteriors. Learn more at the National Park Service website.

Take a Walk in the Park

When the weather’s fine, you can enjoy walking off your La Grotta lunch at the Atlanta Memorial Park, a 200-acre preserve that was created as a memorial to those who lost their lives at the battle of Peachtree Creek, a major battle of the Civil War which took place on this site. With a nature trail, playground, and walking paths, it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors while you’re in Buckhead.

If you prefer a more organized outdoor activity, check out the Bobby Jones Golf Course, which is just adjacent. With a truly unique “reversible” course design, this beautiful course set alongside Peachtree Creek is a joy to explore and to play. Even if you’ve played it before, the Bobby Jones course was fully remodeled in 2019, so has a whole new layout to explore. They also offer private instruction, as well as group classes for adults and juniors. If you just like the clean looks of golf courses, but don’t like to play, there’s a brand-new trail from Atlanta Memorial Park that runs alongside the beautiful greens.
