Atlanta, Georgia has a way of enchanting visitors no matter what time of year you arrive, but if you’re lucky enough to be here over Independence Day, the city will not disappoint. This dynamic destination is known for its many festivals, fairs, and a general sense of fun, so it comes as no surprise that the area comes to life when it’s time to celebrate an Atlanta fourth of July. Whether your mid-summer heart lies with barbeques, picnics, fireworks or hitting the road with laces tied up tight, there’s something for everyone.

Peachtree Road Race

For some athletes, the heat is never an excuse not to get out and make the most of time available for racing and running. If your passion lies with pounding the pavement, you’ll want to be in Atlanta over the 4th of July for a chance to participate in the annual Peachtree Road Race. Participants enjoy a challenging 10K route that winds you through the best of scenic and urban Atlanta as you make your way from beautiful Buckhead to Piedmont Park. Runners can participate for an entry fee of $200, and if your travels bring you to town a bit early, don’t miss out on the opportunity to attend the pre-race Health & Fitness Expo hosted July 2nd and 3rd.

Red White and Brew

The Georgia Aquarium takes 4th of July festivities to a new level of fun by transforming into a social hot spot for this special occasion! The aquarium is proud to host Red White and Brew, where guests 21 and up are invited to come and enjoy limitless cider and beer samples as well as live music and a BBQ dinner on July 4th. The party begins at 7:00 pm and goes until 10:00 pm with plenty of roof viewing space to take in the fireworks that begin at dusk.

Fireworks in the Fourth Ward

The 4th of July just wouldn’t be the same without an impressive display of fireworks to light up the night sky in glittering wonder. When you’re in Atlanta for Independence Day, make sure to find a spot at Fireworks in the Fourth Ward which is hosted annually by Ponce City Market and the O4W Business Association. The event is free to the public and is marketed as a family-friendly gathering where food trucks, entertainment, and music abound before fireworks kick off around 9:15 pm.
