In this class, you will learn the basics of sewing while sewing a reusable snack bag. This will include a short overview of the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, and straight stitching. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a super cute and functional snack bag. Its simple design is equally simple to make.
- Skills taught: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, and how to sew in a straight line.
- Skills expected: None, just an open mind.
- Materials needed: Two fabric pieces 1/2 yard for each piece (1 interior / 1 exterior). “Fat quarter” size is great! Suitable fabrics are quilting cotton.
- Materials provided: Snack bag sewing pattern, a sewing machine, sewing thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, an iron and ironing board.
