In our 2-part, advanced-beginner dressmaking class, students will make The Day Dress by The Avid Seamstress. The classic silhouette is the essential dress pattern to teach you necessary dressmaking skills such as darts, set-in sleeves, gathered waist, invisible zipper closure… and POCKETS! Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Check the pattern back for fabric yardage required for your size. Bring your pre-washed and pre-cut fabric to class.
Note: To save time and space for your fellow sewists, please cut out your pattern and fabric pieces before class. We will mail your pattern approximately two weeks before class to give you time to cut out. If you want to collect your pattern in person, just let us know in the notes at check out. We encourage you to contact the shop before class if you need help cutting out your fabric.
- Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have equivalent experience. You have some basic garment sewing experience, know how to thread and use a sewing machine, and have sewn within the last 2 years. You will not be taught to sew in this class so please be sure you already know how to sew!
- Materials needed: See your required fabric yardage on the back of the pattern and bring your fabric pre-washed to class. This dress is suited for woven fabrics such as cotton lawn, linen or chambrays.
- Materials provided: The Day Dress pattern, a sewing machine, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron.
