This Dopp Kit /Toiletries Bag is a great intro to sewing project for both guys & gals. In this class you will learn all the basics of sewing– including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine, you’ll learn how to cut and pin fabric, the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing curves and corners. We’ll provide the measurements to cut and specific instructions to guide you along the way to make a useful and beautiful toiletries bag.
- Skills taught: How to understand a sewing machine, the concept and execution of seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line, pivot at corners and sew boxed corners, and how to insert a zipper.
- Skills expected: None!
- Materials needed: Two fabric pieces 1/2 yard for each piece (1 interior / 1 exterior). Suitable fabrics are quilting cotton and heavier weight fabrics like canvas. We have oilskin fabric that is great for this bag. Fabric not included in the cost of the class.
- Materials provided: A sewing machine, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron and your zipper.
